Glassdoor Overview Of Trends In The Workplace

Workplace Trends 2021                              <- opens as a PDF

This was, of course, pointed out to me by a Fast Company clickbait article about careers that are wounded or in decline due to the pandemic - that's on page 25 if you're in a hurry. But the whole thing is pretty interesting.

Some observations: certain specialty medical jobs are there, but it makes sense that the medical industry is shifting due to various factors - mostly, people have less stress and sickness due to less time in an office space and/or commuting. Plus, although healthcare (which constitutes half of our economy in the USA. Half!) is certainly a lucrative job, it's also now known to be as dangerous as, say, law enforcement. Maybe more so.

Speaking of which, it will be very hard to get therapy in the future, as therapists, social workers, psychologists, and such now have to serve on the front lines in big cities responding to mental health crises.

(I almost did a post on the "Defund The Police" movement, but that's probably not appropriate now.)

And, of course, with any job that is done online, salaries are going to plummet. Entry level and even mid-level opportunities will dry up. Specialties that can be handled reasonably well by AI, machine learning, data, scientific solutions, and algorithmic programs will become obsolete. In sum, it's going to be very hard to make a living in one's home office.

Good thing your community college will be free to get another degree at! Right, new President and Vice President?! Right?!?!?!
