Dispatch From The Home Office: late stage coronapanic, twitter agita, and other ailments of working from home

Recently, I read this:
Hitting The Pandemic Wall
As always, Psychology Today is a great source of objective observation into the way things are these days.
You can imagine why I'm writing about this. The vacation we all needed turned into the work from home experience we all felt we really should be doing (OK, those of us who can work from home). But now...
Cabin fever. Depression. Malaise at the world outside, particularly as current events are fueled by the public's frustration at...every thing. Every damned thing.
And constant imperatives to accomplish so much, or don't bother because life is too stressful. They fuse together into a message:
Nothing you do will ever matter.
Doesn't look so good now! Or does it? How are you looking at it?
Some things I've observed:

Fear Not The Future

Baking sourdough is so last year. You know what the new hotness is? Making your own cheese. Yes, it's true.
But seriously folks, things are going to be different. That's not always bad. People are figuring out how to live a more healthful and positive life, rush hour traffic is at a lifetime low, climate change is on the run (but not quite solved yet. No, folks). All good things.
There will be tumult. If you sell commercial real estate, convenience goods, or live entertainment, you're going to have a terrible summer and probably fall too. But lots of industries, trades, and skills will do great, and hopefully a few will be invented. I'm thinking about that. How about you?

Wellness Matters

Depending on your mindset, things like therapy, yoga, CBD, and other non-medical therapeutic things can be wonderful for your life, career, and general well-being.
Maybe it's not even wise to discuss such things on a work related blog, but ask yourself something, employers:
Do self-actualized, motivated employees do the best work?
What a stupid question, of course they do. So wouldn't it be in your best interests to empower and support them in pursuing their wellness?

Social Media Is Bad For You

It's widely known, I hope, that Facebook and twitter* are causing real damage to the well-being and mental health of the general population, you included...but you can still use it for business, so you can't throw all of it away.
How? That's really up to your style and your needs. So yes, you'll need to work on that.
For example, I use Behance for my formal design portfolios (eMailing a PDF is so 2009, you know?) but I'll put sketches and drafts on my Instagram, since that's a social media platform I go to chill and admire art at. Both sites are wonderful for both knowing how hard you have to work as a visual creative, and supporting your dreams in doing that.
Facebook finally got it's Groups Feed working on Firefox as well as it's app, so try and make a point to go there before you catch up with Mom and the guys from college. And/or after? I don't know, so work with what really gets your day started (or settles it down). twitter's lists is a pretty bad feature, as you can't edit your lists comfortably and have no control over being in other people's lists unless you "protect" your account, e.g. lock the world out and render the whole thing meaningless.
I'm not a fan, in other words...

* I spell it that way because it's a tiny site/app that has grown to an outlandish size. Not bad for the site/app where the world goes to fight over politics. By the world, I mean maybe 6% of it.

PS I have added the Rakuten and Clickbank affiliate programs to this blog. I might bring back Amazon, which I've discussed on this blog, if there's any interest.

If you are interested in receiving eMails from the Mario At Work blog, feel free to post here (NOT in a crawlable format - should be "myhandle 'at' gmail etc" format, thanks!). I am new to setting up messaging from Blogger and am open to trying things.

Thanks again for visiting my site!
(Had to redo the comment to confirm Blogger also trims for codes and stuff. So be mindful when posting. Thanks again!)
